In situations where bolts need to be disassembled frequently, in order to protect the surface of the connected part from scratches, it is generally
necessary to place a flat washer at the nut or bolt head position to prevent the surface of the connected part from being scratched, especially for
surfaces that are precision machined.
In some connections where precise friction coefficient is required and there is no separate test requirement for friction coefficient, such as in wind
turbine bolt connections, bolt, nut, and washer connection pairs are generally purchased.
In this case, the bolts, nuts, and washers are all provided by the same manufacturer. The bolt manufacturer needs to handle the nuts and washers
accordingly to ensure consistency in the friction coefficient between the nuts and washers. At the same time, the supplier is required to test the torque
coefficient to meet the technical requirements.
When the bolt strength is relatively high and the allowable compressive stress of the connected component is relatively low. For example, with the
increasing demand for lightweighting in automobiles, lightweight connection technology and structures are widely used in the body and even chassis
structural components. In order to reduce the compressive stress on the pressure bearing surface of the connected parts in bolted joints, prevent
crushing and permanent plastic deformation, it is generally necessary to add flat washers.
In some situations, such as cars, stamping and welding parts are mostly used, and the positional accuracy of the holes between the two parts cannot
be accurately matched. In order to ensure that the bolt holes between the two connectors correspond one-to-one, we need to increase the diameter of
the holes to compensate for the positional deviation of the holes. When the bolt holes exceed the standard requirements and the compressive stress
exceeds the strength of the material, flat washers need to be added.
Sometimes, for the convenience of installation and adjustment, such as connecting the control arm bracket to the control table, one of the bolt holes in
the two bolt connections will be made into a long hole, which can adjust the installation position of the workpiece within a certain range. When using a
long hole, thicker flat washers must be used, and more specifically, special washers or multiple washers may even be used.
